Cabs cash in as strike brings New York to a halt
Posted By admin
“New York may be the city that never sleeps, but it does stop. For the third day, commuters learnt to walk, bicycle, hitch-hike and bribe their way to work as the city's bus and subway workers went on strike.
Even with draconian traffic management measures in place – cars carrying fewer than four people were banned from the southern half of Manhattan – the city's mid-town endured perpetual gridlock. Traffic was so bad that Fifth and Madison avenues were closed to allow emergency vehicles access.” (Syndey Morning Herald [1], Thursday)
