The Burning Platform has been doing a superb job of covering the phenomenon in great detail. Keynesian economic theory and the politician’s insatiable desire to spend other people’s money is truly a marriage made in hell. There is another solution, although I admit that it is incredibly unlikely to happen. The best solution is for government to pay down its deficit by dismantling bureaucracies, eliminating entitlements and reducing the size of government. Start with the biggest and most intrusive ones and work down from there. This would not only pay back the debt, but it would actually promote economic growth immediately as well as insure against future recessions and depressions.
