Hayek, Mises, Rothbard, Sennholz and the other Austrian Economists understand not only the working of the market economy but also the power of the state and the damage the state inflicts on the market economy in preventing, altering or misallocating the demands of the consumers. In a command and control economy the politicians, bureaucrats and their clients the ruling elite coersively substitute their judgement for the judgement of each individual consumer. The net result is to make the economy less efficient in meeting consumer demands resulting in malinvestments and misallocation of scarce resources. No where is the damage greater than the damage caused by the Federal Reserve and the cental banks around the world whose printing of fiat currency has allowed the state to grow at a rapid rate since 1913 when the Federal Reserve System was first created. Hence the warfare-welfare state of the Twentieth Century. While writers such as George Orwell could describe with great detail the functioning of the warfare-welfare state unfortunately they were unable philosophically to comprehend the causal connection between state power and the manner in which the warfare-welfare state functioned.

If in your last paragraph you mean full Marxist communism is not in the plan, well that is not particularly comforting. The distinction between fascism and bureaucratic corporatism has been to fine a line for my economic understanding. Besides, I think fascism is close enough and maybe is more threatening, something that might wake up people to what they can lose.
Many of the outright giveaways, redistributing assets at the whim of the elected and appointed leadership, is pretty close to socialism to me. From them that's got to them that's not.
