Dinner at the Atlantis Country Club

Lawrence W. Reed will present on the “Lessons From History We Dare Not Ignore” – Everyone has heard the famous words of the philosopher George Santayana, “Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.”  But have you given much thought to just how poignant that is for our times today? When it comes to what’s happening in Washington these days, much less is “new” than you might think. Reed sees fascinating parallels to at least two critical periods in world history: the late Roman republic and the Great Depression of the 1930s –and today. Two thousand plus years separate those eras but the lessons are relevant to the issues of 2009 as if they occurred last week. Come hear a first-class history lesson that will illuminate the economic and social problems we face today. You’ll learn a great deal about what needs to be changed to make for a brighter future. Of course a lively Q & A to follow.
