My name is Kecia Baker. I am married and have a 3 year old daughter. I just finished my Administrative Assistant program at Virginia College in Birmingham. Currently, I am taking Paralegal Studies at Virginia College Online. I have a 4.0 GPA. I work extra hard to keep this up. I have been on the President's list every semester since 2006. I love the program that I am in now. I have decided to specialize in youth criminal law. Eventually, I want to become a lawyer. This dream is expensive. The classes at Virginia College are $1,300 just for one class. So, I have to rely on student loans because FASFA claims my husband and I make too much money. I don't see how when we barely get by. Of course with today's economy I know I am not the only one. I know so many friends who are loosing their homes and/or jobs. Luckily, we have not had to face that. But, like many Americans we are in debt that is beginning to take its toll on our finances. I don't disagree that the debt is our fault. I'm not pointing any fingers of blame. I just fear the pay back of the student loans that will be added on top of what we currently owe. So far I have about $20,000 in student loans that I will have to pay back. Unfortunately, this is not going to be the final total when it is all said and done. I realize that I have ten years to pay it back. It just would be easier if I didn't have to pay more than that to pay it back. I would like to get a scholarship that I could put in a 401K or some other investment account that would grow over the course of time. Once that growth accumulates I can pay the loan off. This way I am not paying another monthly payment that I cannot afford as well as barely paying the interest. Basically, I can use all the help I can get at this point. I have applied for many different scholarships. There have been no acceptance replies. I can't help but feel hopeless in my search. All I need is the chance. I want to make a difference with my field of choice. Help me make that difference.
