A General Note to Parents, Teachers, and Students:
FEE is more than happy to issue a certificate of participation or write a letter detailing the content covered in our seminars for students that wish to document their attendance for their academic portfolio. FEE is also happy to recommend additional readings and supplements for students and home educators who would like to incorporate their week at Freedom Academy into a larger exploration of economics.
Why Should I Attend a FEE Summer Seminar?
The last few years have been an extraordinary time to study the field of economics. Nearly every day the newspapers report yet another unprecedented event or policy measure. From the Wall Street bailouts to the 2012 presidential debates, we are constantly being bombarded with confusing information and conflicting opinions about the economy. Attempting to make sense of it all can be overwhelming and intimidating - how does one determine what to believe? Students who attend FEE’s Freedom Academy high school seminars will learn how to sift through all of the political rhetoric and formulate their own opinions regarding current events and public policies.
For the last 50 years, FEE's goal in hosting introductory economics seminars has been to give students the tools needed to answer or find answers to some of the most difficult economic questions, such as:
What caused the recession of 2008?Why are some nations rich while others are poor?Is war good for the economy?What is the role of the entrepreneur?Why did the Great Depression last so long?What causes price inflation?Participants should also expect to gain an understanding of the moral underpinnings of free enterprise and how the most productive and moral economic system also respects individual rights, human dignity, and offers equal opportunity to all.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make life long connections with students, authors, and professors from all over the world who share a belief in the principles of a free society. FEE seminars look great on a resume and often help give students direction in their pursuit of higher education. We hope to see you there!
Students with an interest in economics, history, politics, social science, philosophy, education, business, or current events are all encouraged to apply.
